Pair of small low moulded and gilded wood canopies stamped L. C. Carpentier, Transition
period. The square, flat back, the curved armrests adorned with mouldings and ribbons. Square seat, legs
fluted on two sides and smooth on the other two.

Louis-Charles Carpentier received his master's degree in 1752.

Renowned carpenter, he was the official supplier of Louis Joseph de Bourbon, Prince de Condé, the Duc d'Orléans and important members of the Parisian aristocracy.
By their original form, these seats can be dated to the production of the Transition period, around 1770, well
represented in the Louvre, and later of eight armchairs and two sofas (Grog-Carven donation) and the
cheeked sofa (former Seligman collection).
