Gaston LA TOUCHE (1854-1913) Masked ball Pastel signed lower left. Titled on the back on a label. 76 x 55 cm We thank Mrs Selina Baring Maclennan and Mr. Roy Brindley for confirming the authenticity of the work. They inform us that the man in the foreground on the right is a self-portrait of the artist. We are also grateful to them for informing us that this watercolour will be included in the catalogue raisonné of the artist that they are currently compiling. Gaston La Touche exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français, in the painting section, which he left in 1890 for the brand new Salon de la Société nationale des Beaux-Arts which had just been founded by Félix Bracquemond and Puvis de Chavannes. Gaston La Touche had a significant success, both critically and commercially. He will also participate in the Société nouvelle des peintres et sculpteurs, considered at the time as the third Salon. He exhibited there with Henri Le Sidaner, René Ménard, Henri Martin, Jacques-Emile Blanche, Auguste Rodin, Aman-Jean Important works will integrate during his lifetime the greatest museums.
