Following his submissions to the Orientalist Painters Exhibition, in February 1906, and his participation in the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille, the same year, the General Government of Algeria awarded Jouve a grant, allowing him to be with Léon Cauvy, the first resident of the Villa Abd-el-Tif, for two years. This grant allowed the selected artists to live and work in this villa. After three months he had to return to France, having numerous commissions to fulfil, exhibitions to prepare and the commission to illustrate The Jungle Book. In 1908, back to the villa Abd el Tif, he gets married in Algiers with Annette Noiré, daughter of the painter of Algiers, Maxime Noiré. He will benefit from it to carry out stays in the south from which he will bring back many studies. He will go until Bou Saada with Etienne Dinet and will meet André Suréda. He also prepared the illustrations for the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. Our drawing made in Boghar (one hundred and fifty kilometers south of Algiers on the road to the oasis of Bou Saada which is the "door of the desert") will be chosen for the 1919 edition,
