Jean-Joseph-Xavier BIDAULD (Carpentras, 1758 - Montmorency, 1846) Italian Mountainous Landscape Canvas. 34 x 51 cm Provenance: acquired from the Galerie de Bayser, Paris, in 2001, by the present owner; private collection private collection, Paris Born in Carpentras, Jean-Joseph Xavier Bidauld received his first training in Lyon from 1768 to 1774, then in Switzerland and finally in Paris where he met Joseph Vernet and the art dealer Dulac. He travelled to Rome from 1785 where he was fascinated by the mountains of Lazio and the luminous quality of the Roman Roman countryside. Back in Paris in 1790, he exhibited his paintings at the Salon from 1791 and met with great success. a real success. This was followed by numerous commissions from the imperial family, notably from Joseph Bonaparte and Caroline Murat.
