Kassian Cephas (1844-1912) & others YOUNG GERMAN ENGINEER IN INDONESIA Photographic diary of a residence in Sumatra with several trips around the world, 1921-1924. 4 albums bound in Indonesian cloth, 794 silver prints, captioned in German and often dated, as follows: 12 leaves with 68 prints; 36 leaves, 294 photos; 35 leaves, 344 photos; 12 leaves, with 88 photos, inserted in the binding, a newspaper clipping and 21 unmounted photos. Albums compiled with great care by a German expatriate stationed in Silinda (North Sumatra), probably on a rubber plantation. He also documents the short stopovers of the long journeys he undertook to get there several times. One can see his portrait taken in 1921, that of his driver, and of his acquaintances. His personal photographs alternate with those of professional studios such as Kassian Cephas. Cities: Manila, San Francisco, Sumatra, Java, Hong Kong, Cairo, Munich, picturesque or remarkable scenes, man on a cart, tiger and anaconda hunting, work in the fields, rubber harvesting, canteens, mosques, German hospital, market, volcano.
