CHANTILLY, 18th century, circa 1735-1740
Figure of a bearded magot in soft enamel porcelain representing Shou Lao seated on a rock, holding a cane, wearing a tunic with polychrome decoration of flowering branches in the Kakiemon style, the rock forming a potpourri, surmounted by an ormolu cover with days, the base in ormolu with water leaves.
Marked under the left hand: hunting horn in red.
The cane restored, the index finger of the right hand glued back, small chips at the end of the fingers of the left hand.

A similar magot, but with the head left in cookie, is kept in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and reproduced in Le XVIIIe siècle français, p. 81.
Provenance : former collection of Count Robert de Lesterps de Beauvais (1863-1938), then by descent.
