CHANTILLY, 18th century, circa 1735-1740 Figure of a bearded magot in soft enamel porcelain representing Shou Lao seated on a rock, holding a cane, wearing a tunic with polychrome decoration of flowering branches in the Kakiemon style, the rock forming a potpourri, surmounted by an ormolu cover with days, the base in ormolu with water leaves. Marked under the left hand: hunting horn in red. The cane restored, the index finger of the right hand glued back, small chips at the end of the fingers of the left hand. H. 23 L. 24,5 cm A similar magot, but with the head left in cookie, is kept in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and reproduced in Le XVIIIe siècle français, p. 81. Provenance : former collection of Count Robert de Lesterps de Beauvais (1863-1938), then by descent. Two handwritten labels mention this provenance, one mentioning P.T. [soft porcelain] of Chantilly pewter enamel c. 1723 Col. Du cte de Lesterps de Beauvais, the other 1900 Magot soft paste Chantilly group 12 class 72 certificate n° 40907 cte de Lesterps-Beauvais, 9 rue Pourtalès
