LIMOGES, early 18th century, workshop of Jacques II LAUDUN (1663-1729) Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) in three-quarter bust after the model of François Simon (1606-1671), around 1660. Enamel plate painted polychrome with gold highlights, scrolls in relief in the spandrels. Holes for fixing. Band in the lower part with the inscription: VINCENT DE. PAVL PTRE, FONDATEVR AND PMIER. SVPERIEVR. GRAL DE The Congregation of the Msion. Midnight blue counter enamel with inscription on the reverse: Laudin au faubourgs / De Manigne/ a Limoges and monogrammed I.L. Some cracks of cooking to the counter-glaze. H. 21,5 L. 16,9 cm Molded and gilded wood frame and collection label on the reverse The production of enamels in the Laudun workshop was famous throughout the 17th century, and more particularly under the direction of under the direction of Jacques II Laudun (1663-1729). The latter maintains the tradition of the painted enamel workshops of Limoges that had been flourishing since the 16th century. Saint Vincent de Paul, priest and founder of the Congregation of the Mission, is represented after the portrait by Simon François de Tours. The inscription in the band and the absence of a halo situate the realization of this portrait and this painted enamel plaque before the canonization of the churchman by Pope Clement XII in Clement XII in 1737.
