BÉTHUNE (Philippe de). Extraordinary embassy of Messieurs the duke of Angoulesme, count of Bethune and Preaux Chasteau-Neuf. Sent by King Louis XIII to Emperor Ferdinand II and the Princes and Potentates of Germany, in the year 1620. In Paris, chez F. Preuveray, 1667. 2 parts in one volume in-folio, contemporary brown calf, spine with 6 nerves, decorated caissons, gilt title, edges speckled (defects of which the headdresses are damaged, plates epididymous; stain in the margin on p., 289, tear repaired in the margin on p. 521; moderate russeting) Important report given by the diplomats sent to the Holy Empire by Henri IV and Louis XIII. Edited and published by Henri de Béthune (1604-1680), archbishop of Bordeaux, son of the author and nephew of Maximilien de Béthune, duke of Sully. Title in red and black with large woodcut vignette. A copy with large margins.
