[Bound in the coat of arms]. [Illustrated Bible. French. 1702]. HISTOIRE (L') du Vieux et du Nouveau Testament, représentée avec des figuresÀ Paris, chez P. Aubouyn, C. Clouzier, 1702 et 1701. Two parts in 1 volume in-4, [8] f., 552 p. in continuous, figs, contemporary glazed havana calf, spine with 5 nerves, garnet calf title-piece, caissons decorated with small irons, arms stamped in the tail, arms gilt in the center of each plate, border of a gilt fillet with fleur-de-lys in angular fleurons, red edges (flaws of which jaws partly split, head-cap uncovered, one corner worn; soiling and foxing, accidents in the margin, Bible known as the Royaumont Bible, whose translation is attributed to Louis-Isaac Le Maître de Sacy, or to Nicolas Fontaine. This edition, illustrated with more than 250 copper engravings in mid-page, first appeared in 1670, and was reprinted several times until the middle of the 18th century. This one contains the two engravings by Sébastien Le Clerc mentioned by Brunet and which have not always been included (p.21 and 339). Provenance: with the arms of the Collège Mazarin; Arlatan family (Provence, arms stamped later on the tail of the spine).
