[Binding]. CAMUS (Jean-Pierre); [COLLOT (Pierre)]. L'Esprit de saint François de Sales, évêque et prince de Genève, recueilli de divers écrits de M. Jean-Pierre Camus... par M. P. C. (i.e. Pierre Collot) Nouvelle édition. In Paris, at the Estienne brothers, 1747. In-8, green morocco, smooth spine decorated with horizontal roulettes on red mosaic pieces, matching title pieces, gilt fleurons, rich decoration in small irons on the boards, with double fillet and roulette on the border, the whole gilt, with in the centers of each one a medallion of red morocco, carrying in silver thread embroidery on the upper board a monogram, on the lower board a bouquet, gilt roulette on the lower board, a gilt cover on the upper board, a gilt cover on the lower board. A bouquet, gilt roulette at the edges, double inner roulette including a Greek one, pink silk guard, gilt edges [Devers] (minor defects including slightly rubbed corners, small damage to a mosaic on the back, worms' work on the upper front cover; brownings). Luxurious binding signed on the spine by Devers. Only a small number of bindings bearing this signature are known, and the identity of this binder is not defined with certainty. According to Léon Gruel (Manuel historique et bibliographique de l'amateur de reliures, 1905, p.61), it would be a certain Claude Devers fils aîné, bookbinder in Lyon, active at the end of the reign of Louis XVI. Several bookbinders in Lyon bore this name and continued the family activity during the 19th century.
