LIPSE (Juste). Opera omnia, postremum ab ipso aucta et recensita, nunc primum copioso rerum indice illustrata. Vesaliae : apud A. ab Hoogenhuysen et societatem, 1675. 4 strong volumes in-8, contemporary ivory vellum, smooth spine, title in ink (spine grayed, qq. plates browned, russ. to titles). New edition of the complete works of the Belgian humanist Juste Lipse (1547-1606). It is distinguished by its entirely copper-engraved illustration, offering more than 100 figures in the text, some full-page, and 8 plates. It also contains at the beginning of volume 1, a full-page engraved portrait of the author, and a title-frontispiece offering another portrait of the same in medallion. The illustration is particularly concentrated in volume 3, and relates to texts on military art, and the famous treatise on the tortures of the cross, "De cruce libris tres". (Van der Haeghen, II, 257.)
