PONCELIN DE LA ROCHE-TILHAC (Jean-Charles). Masterpieces of Antiquity on fine arts, precious monuments of the religion of the Greeks and Romans engraved in intaglio by Bernard Picart. In-folio, [2] f., 286 p. (misquoted 186), [1] f. (privil.), contemporary speckled tan calf, spine with 6 nerves, green morocco title-piece, ornate caissons, triple gilt fillet to the boards, marbled edges (jaws cracked and weak binding of the boards, headpieces and corners worn, boards rubbed; light spotting in the margins at the end of the volume, moderate scattered russetting). Collection of copper-engraved plates by Bernard Picart illustrating in particular the collection of engraved stones of Baron Philip von Stosch (1691-1757). This suite had already been published in 1724; it is here commented by La Roche-Tilhac, journalist and printer-librarian who is also the publisher of the book. The illustration consists of 81 plates (one of which is double; and pl. 3-4 on the same sheet). A copy with large margins.
