QUINTE CURCE. Historiarum libri, accuratissime editi. Amstelodami, typis D. Elzevirii, 1665. In-16, 284 pp. (including the engraved illustrated title), [10] f. (the last blank), contemporary fawn basane, spine with 4 nerves, gilt title, gilt fleur-de-lys on the boards and caissons, gilt edges (rubbed, 3 corners worn, worms in the tail of the spine, small ink stain on the title). Provenance: Louis-Henri, duke of Bourbon (1692-1740), who headed the Conseil de Régence during the minority of Louis XV, then became prime minister. According to an attached note, this book was offered to him as a prize by his tutor, Father Étienne Dechamps, a Jesuit. On the first flyleaf is the autograph ex-dono signed by the master: "Serenissimo Principi Borbonio diligentia praemium, Steph. Dechamps". Then: Dominique-Joseph Garat (1749-1833), politician, Basque deputy, several times minister during the Revolution, later member of the Institute and the French Academy (signature on the v° of the upper guard). The clasps with scallop motifs, torn off, have been preserved, attached to the volume by a cord.
