Arent Arentz is the grandson of Pieter Aertsen. Close to Hendrik Avercamp by the choice of his subjects, he differs from him
the simplicity of his compositions, his clear and luminous palette served by a foreground always
always animated by large figures of peasants at work or contemplative. His rectilinear and low horizons
horizons make him one of the initiators of the Dutch national landscape of the 17th century, in reaction to the
imaginative tendencies of the sylvan or mountainous landscape inspired by the Flemish (Coninxloo, Momper, Bril).
