Rare fan commemorating a royal wedding around... - Lot 142 - Daguerre
Rare fan commemorating a royal wedding around 1770-1780. Folded fan, the cream silk sheet painted with medallion portraits of the bride and groom, under a royal crown with golden chain stitch. It could be on the left of Louis, the future dauphin Louis XVI, wearing the order of the Holy Spirit and on the right of Marie Antoinette, whose marriage is celebrated in May 1770. Another hypothesis could be the evocation of the marriage of the Count of Provence in 1771 or the Count of Artois in 1773. The medallions are underlined with the point of gilded chainette, like the side motives evoking the loving feelings: two baskets filled with flowers; a heart pierced with two arrows on which rests a dove on the right; a quiver and a torch, associated with a dove on the left. In border, effect of spots of panther on pink bottom. Dumb reverse. Mounted in finely carved ivory, enhanced in color and gilded. In the center, a small group in the Chinese style. On the upper part of the plumes, a character of Chinese inspiration, under a parasol. Raised by a thin plate of brown flake at the head. Small accidents, restorations to the leaf and the mount. Height of the master-strand: 28,5 H of the leaf: 14 cm span: 45 cm Gross weight 52,0 grs.
