[ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT HOURS / PARIS]. Late 15th century (circa 1470/1480) manuscript book of hours in one small antique in-8° volume (115 x 169 mm), brown calf, boards entirely decorated with gilt fanfare and stippling, inscription in the center, different on both ("Iesvs" & "Maria"), ornate spine, gilt edges (period binding). CHARACTERISTICS 103 vellum pages. A ruled copy, with seventeen lines on the page. Text in Latin (except for the calendar, the last nine pages of prayers and some headings in French). COMPOSITION ff. 1 - 12 v° : calendar of saints (in French) ; ff. 13 - 16 v° : beginning of the Gospel according to St. John & continuation of the Gospels (St. Luke, St. Matthew & St. Mark); ff. 17 - 19 v° : beginning of the office of the Holy Virgin ; ff. 20 - 51 v° : continuation of the office (with prime on f. 35 v°, tierce on f. 39, noon [or sexte] on f. 41 v°, nones on f. 43 v° & compline on f. 49) ; ff. 52 - 67 v° : continuation of the prayers (with the litany of the saints) ; ff. 68 - 99 : psalms ; ff. 99 v° - 103 : " Les quinze joies nostredame " followed by : "Les sept requestes a nostre S[eigneu]r" (in French). ILLUSTRATIONS Three miniatures with floral borders: f. 20 : the Angelic Salutation (or Annunciation) ; f. 52 : King David at prayer; f. 68 : the holy man Job and his three mocking friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar. ORNAMENTATION 12 pages decorated with a painted and illuminated floral border covering three sides; numerous painted and illuminated lettering on blue or red background, and some line-ends; rubrics in in red ink. ORIGIN Paris ? Presence of s. Lieffroy (February 4), s. Blandis (February 18), s. Gaulain (February 21), s. Gourgon (March 11), s. Getrux (March 17) [?], s. Rogard (March 28), s. Aquilan (May 17) & s. Pernelle (May 31). DEFECTS Small stain on the text of f. 20. A VERY FRIENDLY COPY, in an ORIGINAL ORIGINAL LEATHER BINDING of the period.
