Attributed to Louis II de BOULLOGNE (1654-1733) Portrait of Jean Louis Arnault adviser and secretary of the king, treasurer general of the Extraordinary of wars Canvas. Old restorations. 140 x 106 cm Jean-Louis Arnault (circa 1160-before June 1707), who became a farmer general in 1702. Provenance : Chacenay castle (Aube), kept in the same family. Bibliography : Les Sires et les barons de Chacenay by Abbé Lalore, Troyes, Librairie Léopold Lacroix, 1885 (with reversal of attribution between the two portraits of the couple). The attribution to Louis de Boullogne has been transmitted by family tradition. An alternative proposal to return this painting to Nicolas Fouché has been suggested.
