Mahogany and mahogany veneer coffee table... - Lot 168 - Daguerre
Mahogany and mahogany veneer coffee table attributed to Jean Gotlieb Frost from the Louis XVI period. Of oval shape it opens to a drawer and rests on sheath feet joined by a shelf. Ornaments of chased bronzes. H. 77 W. 90 D. 59 cm By its style, our table is inspired by the neoclassical productions of the German cabinetmaker David Roentgen (1743-1807) which are characterized by the use of plain mahogany, the sobriety of the bronzes underlining the pure lines of the furniture. See Koeppe W., Extravagant inventions, ed. The Metropolitan Museum, 2013, p.180 and 181 for a pair of tables of similar structure.
