K : Rez de Chaussée" for the Duke of Deux-Ponts, for his castle of Karlsberg. H. 90 L. 48 D. 47 cm Provenance: delivered in 1782 for Charles II Augustus Christian of Palatinate-Two Bridges I (1746-1795) at Karlsberg Castle. Karlsberg Castle, one of the largest in Europe, was built from 1778 to 1788 for the Palatine Duke of Deux Ponts; after the death of Louis XVI, the French sought to arrest and try him as a sovereign prince, despite his neutrality in the revolutionary conflicts. The castle was burned down on July 28, 1793 by the French armies. Part of the furniture by Georges Jacob is kept in the Residence of Munich/ Bibliography: Brigitte Langer, Die Möbel der Residenz München. I - Die französischen Möbel des 18. Jahrhunderts, ed. Prestel 1995 p. 187 ff. where a large number of Georges Jacob's creations for the Duke of Deux-Ponts are listed. There are illustrated several delivery labels, similar to ours, indicating a number, a letter and a place (in Karlsberg).
