Roberts / 1849. Provenance: commissioned from the artist by Marie-Madeleine-Barbe Cuillier-Perron, Countess Alfred de Montesquiou-Fezensac (1801-1869), as a gift to her sister, Anne-Charlotte Cuillier-Perron, Countess Charles-Frédéric de La Rochefoucauld (1809-1892), in October 1849. An identical handwritten inscription on the back of each of the drawings: One of the interior views of the château du Fresne (located in the commune of Authon, in the Vendôme region near Château-Regnault) of the room of my excellent and beloved father General Pierre François Cuillier Perron, former generalissimo of the armies of Scindiah chief Mahratte and of the Mogul Emperor Schalame General Perron, who distinguished himself in India, carried the French name so high, and left a venerated memory, was born on August 6, 1753 and was called back to God on May 21, 1834. General Pierre Cuillier-Perron (1753-1834) was a French military man and adventurer. Son of a master weaver, he embarked for India in 1780 as a simple sailor. He spent more than thirty years of his life serving the local forces against the British occupiers. He returned to France in 1806 after amassing a considerable fortune. On the wall, a panoramic wallpaper by the Dufour factory, The Savages of the Pacific Sea (Year XIII, 1804-1805), presented at the 1806 Exhibition of French Industry in Paris. This decoration is still in place today.
