After Sebastien Bourdon (1616-1671) Queen Christine of Sweden (1826-1869) Engraving 26 x 20 cm Three engravings of the XVIIIth century are attached. Sébastien Bourdon, was a painter to the king, rector of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, of which he was one of the twelve founders. He was invited to Stockholm in 1652 by Queen Christine who named him her first painter. Queen Christine of Sweden was actually entitled "King of Sweden", in accordance with her father's wish to see her accede to the throne. She converted to Catholicism, then abdicated after 21 years of reign, and went to live in Rome where she transformed her home -the Corsini Palace- into a museum. She was in contact with many intellectuals including Descartes and Pascal.
