FRENCH SCHOOL, circa 1770-1780 Portrait of Antoine Pierre Hilaire Danès de Sameron (1718-1777) Marble bust. Titled on the right shoulder A.P. H/ Danès Lieutt- Génl-/Gouvr-de-St-Denis. Old restoration to the nose, broken pedestal, chip in the drapery. H. 60 cm Born in Paris, Antoine Pierre Hilaire Danès de Sameron had a good administrative career, like his father Pierre Antoine who was father Pierre Antoine who was president treasurer of France and grand voyer in Paris. He started as a counselor at the first chamber of the Enquiries of the Parliament of Paris, before becoming president of the Court of the Aides. In 1760, he was governor of Saint-Denis and then lieutenant general of the city of Paris in 1770. He is shown here at the end of his career career, after 1770, decorated with what seems to be the medal of the Portuguese Order of Christ of which he was made a knight
