In-folio, [38] f., 370 p., [sign. a-e 6, f 8 (f 8 blank), A-Z 6, Aa-Hh 6], contemporary glazed tan calf, spine with 8 nerves and mute, gilt fleurons, double framing of a triple cold fillet to the boards, with 4 fleurons at the corners and one in the center, all gilt (headpieces faded, corners worn, lacunae to the spine and to the upper spine, the binding of the upper board clumsily redone, upper endpaper renewed, lower endpaper incomplete, stains and rubbing to the boards; sporadic stains and wetness in the margins, corner mq. in the margin p.287, tear without mq. in the margin p.297 New edition of this major work by the Neapolitan jurist Alessandro Alessandri (1461-1523), which contains, somewhat in the manner of medieval encyclopedias, a remarkable scholarly sum on various subjects. It stands out in particular for the marvelous, even occult, themes it deals with, in particular the interpretation of dreams, magical events, apparitions, and monstrous creatures.
