CATHERINE II (impératrice de Russie). Instructions adressées par S.M. l'Impératrice de toutes les Russies à la commission établie pour travailler à l'exécution du projet d'un nouveau code de lois. A Pétersbourg, s.n., 1769.
CATHERINE II (empress of Russia). Instructions addressed by H.M. the Empress of all the Russias to the commission established to work on the execution of the project of a new code of laws. In Petersburg, s.n., 1769. In-12, 286 p., contemporary havana racine basane, smooth spine decorated, garnet title-piece, triple gilt fillet on the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, red edges (spine a little rubbed with small worm's work on the lower board, one cut uncovered on 3 cm, corners rubbed, very pale wetness in the margins of the first 10 f., rubbed faux-title). First edition in French to be put on the market, translated from the German text by J.-R. Frey des Landes, a Swiss officer. The privilege suggests that it was printed in Yverdon. Borrowing largely from Montesquieu's Esprit des lois and Beccaria's Traité des Délits et des Peines, the empress Catherine herself had established a French version of her code, printed in St. Petersburg for a limited distribution. (INED, 1005).
