(including an engraved portrait), 503 p., [7] f., contemporary ivory parchment, smooth spine, title in ink (light stains and small flaws in the binding; upper guard missing; first few ff. faded with worm's work in the margins; wetness at the very beginning of the vol. then in the margins and finally on the 2nd half of the vol. not serious; lower white half of the last f. replaced). First edition of this work, dedicated to Henry de Bourbon, prince of Condé and governor of Berry. This collection of the privileges of the cities, established according to the collections of charters, concerns mainly Bourges, but also the cities of Tours, La Rochelle, and to a lesser extent, Paris, Amiens, Chaumont, Orleans, Arles, Aix, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Poitiers and Le Mans. Illustrated with a copper-engraved portrait of the author by Léonard Gaultier. (Brunet I, 1833). Amusing old bookplate repeated on the endpapers: " This book belongs to its master / who is neither a Capuchin nor a priest / if you want to know his name / his name is Louis Griffon ".
