Nicolas Bernard LÉPICIÉ (Paris, 1735-1784) - Lot 44
Nicolas Bernard LÉPICIÉ (Paris, 1735-1784) Bust-length portrait of a young boy, formerly known as Portrait of Gounod Canvas. Old restorations. 40.5 x 32 cm Carved and gilded wood frame from the Louis XIV period. From the 1760s, Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié turned to genre scenes, influenced by Chardin but also by the Dutch masters of the 17th century. His paintings mostly depict isolated figures with a particular fondness for portraits of pupils or children in simple clothing. Often in small these paintings express a sense of intimacy with the sitter. We would like to thank Mr Patrick Michel for confirming the attribution after a visual examination on October 21, 2022.
