In the 1860s, Carrier Belleuse devoted himself to creating small groups of children in the spirit of Clodion and the 18th-century terracottists, which he integrated into both statuary and the decorative arts. These subjects, of varying sizes, were a great success, and were distributed by his workshop in all materials.
