Johan Hans BOET (active c. 1635 - after 1671) Allegory of the earth Copper parquet. 66.5 x 91 cm Louis XIV-style frame in carved gilded wood. Our painting is a remake of a composition by Jan Brueghel and Hendrik van Balen I, part of a series of the Four Elements now in the Galleria Doria Pamphilj in Rome. Boet collaborated with Jan Brueghel on several occasions, since at least two paintings are signed by both artists (formerly London, The Trafalgar Galleries, Allegory of Fire and Allegory of Earth). Another painting signed by de Boet depicting Venus in the Forges of Vulcan was sold at Sotheby's New York on January 28, 1999, lot 531.
