Jean RANC (Montpellier, 1674 - Madrid, 1735) - Lot 40
Jean RANC (Montpellier, 1674 - Madrid, 1735) Presumed portrait of Hyacinthe Antoine Foullé, Marquis de Martangis Canvas. Minor scratches. 144.5 x 111 cm Unframed. Provenance: sold at Drouot on 21/11/1979, no. 8, attributed to Claude Vignon. According to Stephan Perreau, the model may have been painted around 1700-1701 and may represent the 23-year-old Maître des requêtes Martangis, exhibited at the 1704 Salon. Hyacinthe Antoine Foullé, Marquis de Martangis, Prunevaut, Nolay, Palissonnat and Vinjeu (September 1, 1678 - April 25, 1736), was avocat général aux requêtes du Palais, maître des requêtes (January 14, 1701), intendant of Berry in June 1708, then of Alençon in November 1715. We would like to thank Mr. Stephan Perreau for confirming the attribution based on digital photos, and for his help in describing this portrait.
