Arnoud de VUEZ (Saint-Omer 1642 - Lille 1724) Leda and the Swan Canvas. Minor scratches. 149 x 107 cm Arnould de Vuez trained in Paris in Frère Luc's workshop, then traveled to Italy, where he copied Raphaël. He was admitted Académie royale in 1681. Eleven years later, he created a May for Notre-Dame Cathedral. On Le Brun's death, he settled in Lille in 1694, where he received a number of important commissions. He decorated the region's religious monuments with vast canvases, in which he combined the lessons of classicism of Poussin and Le Brun with Rubenian influence. He has been studied by François Marandet and rehabilitated by an exhibition at the museums of Cambrai and Saint-Omer (December 2020 - April 2021). We would like to thank Mr. François Marandet for proposing its attribution to Arnould de Vuez, pointing out that a key work from the artist's youth, whose composition was previously known only from a preparatory drawing. only a preparatory drawing in a private collection.
