Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX (1827-1875) La Danse, sketch Model created in 1865; cast by Hébrard between 1927 and 1935. Bronze with brown patina. Signed JB. Carpeaux in cursive letters. Bears the date 1869, the founder's stamp A.A. Paris, Musée d'Orsay, 2014, pp. 130-140 This sketch of Carpeaux's celebrated Danse corresponds to the third version accepted by Charles Garnier Garnier in 1865, in which the winged genius is still female, surrounded by four female dancers. There are two variants of the model, one with a background, the other, as here, without. Hébrard produced a posthumous edition from 1927 of fifteen copies. Our copy, marked M, may correspond to number 13.
