Signed JB. Carpeaux in cursive letters.
Bears the date 1869, the founder's stamp A.A.
Hebrard cire perdue, and the letter M on the left side.

This sketch of Carpeaux's celebrated Danse corresponds to the third version accepted by Charles Garnier
Garnier in 1865, in which the winged genius is still female, surrounded by four female dancers. There are two
variants of the model, one with a background, the other, as here, without. Hébrard produced a posthumous edition from
1927 of fifteen copies. Our copy, marked M, may correspond to number 13.
