Pair of large molded wood armchairs, carved and gilded, attributed to Jacob D Rue Meslée from the Empire period.
With straight backs, the armrests emerging from water leaves and resting on detached columns topped by a disk featuring an antique profile, the waistband in a rounded recess decorated with flowers and palmettes, the front legs tapered and ringed
and saber-shaped hind legs.
ARC stencilled on the straps.

Madame Adélaïde, first Mademoiselle de Chartres, sister of King Louis-Philippe, built a château
in Arc-en-Barrois, Champagne, furnished with furniture from various residences and stenciled with the ARC mark, still visible under the straps. The painter Eugène Lami supervised the decoration of the new château (Paris, Archives Nationales, Maison d'Orléans, 300 AP I 1476, May 22, 1845). On her death, she bequeathed her estate to her nephew, the Prince de Joinville.
