(privil.), fr., pl., contemporary spotted havana calf, 5-ribbed spine, red morocco title-piece, ornate caissons, gilt fillet at the edges, red edges (2 corners crushed, qq. ff. a little yellowed). A fine, wide-margined copy of this work dedicated to Queen Marie-Antoinette, with a medallion featuring her portrait engraved on copper by Gaucher after Moreau le jeune. It is further illustrated with a hors-texte portrait of Marie-Thérèse engraved by J. Cathelin after Ducreux, a header vignette with the portrait of Joseph II engraved on copper by Gaucher after Moreau le jeune, and 4 plates engraved by Duclos, de Launay, Prévost and Simonet, also after Moreau. "One of the most successful works by Moreau le Jeune" (Cohen, 413). Early signature "Me Petau" in the margin of the title.
