[Manuscript]. [Picardie]. [CAYROL (Louis Nicolas Jean Joachi - Lot 5
[Manuscript]. [Picardie]. [CAYROL (Louis Nicolas Jean Joachim de). Extracts from manuscripts on Picardy. 19th c. 2 strong volumes in-folio, white half-velin, green morocco title-piece, mounted on tabs, untrimmed (one spine lacerated and detached; significant angular wetness on the first vol. often lined with yellowed crystal paper which allows reading and handling; gaps on the very first f.). Important collection by historian L.N.J.J. de Cayrol (Paris 1775 - Compiègne 1829), member of the Académie d'Amiens, the Société d'archéologie de la Somme and the Société d'émulation d'Abbeville. The volumes have no title page, and the attribution and title are given according to the title page on the spines. The manuscript is most likely autograph. It comprises almost 600 leaves, or 1,200 pages written in ink on paper. It appears to be the "saved" part of a larger whole, since the notes it contains, of varying length, are numbered from 2617 to 3340. Attached are worn and fragmentary leaves offering the elements of a table of notices. Biography, toponymy and the particular history of the region are the main subjects covered; the volumes also contain more general historical notes.
