In the centre, an abundant decoration of interlacing and vegetal motifs, and an umbilicus in relief decorated with a rosette. The marli decorated with a frieze of calligraphy. D. 36 cm Electroplating is a means of reproducing an object using the principle of electrolysis. A mould connected to a negative pole of a battery is immersed in a solvent. A direct electric current allows the particles of metal present in the solution to deposit on the mould in a uniform layer of cuprous metal. This method, which allows an exact facsimile of any object with an irregular surface, was developed in the 19th century, and used in the fields of printing and art. Particularly in the 1920s, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London acquired numerous electroplating of originals held in various major European museums.
