Mahogany and mahogany veneer cabinet secretary stamped (twice) A. Weisweiler, Louis XVI period The flap divided into three panels flanked by detached mahogany columns and bronze scrolled in in the Chinese style. It reveals compartments and drawers. Drawers in the belt, sheath feet, struts. and white marble top, rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes such as scrapers, friezes Small accidents and damages, restorations. H. 136 L. 97 D. 44,5 cm Adam Weisweiler received master in 1778. Bibliography : Patricia Lemonier, Weisweiler, Ed. Monelle Hayot 1983, p. 177 and 178. Patricia Lemonier cites a very similar but smaller piece of furniture in the home of the Duchess of Polignac in Versailles in 1789 (AN O1 3470). For another piece of furniture also very similar in size, see MRD sale, June 24, 1937 n° 5, Charpentier gallery, former Talleyrand- Castellane collection. This piece of furniture is now in the Metropolitan Museum of New York, donated by Robert Lehman, 1975 (see black and white illustration).
