17th century - Lot 55
17th century Venetian School Allegory of Winter White marble. Accidents, shortages and restorations. H. 49 cm In Renaissance Italy, the winter is traditionally represented by an old man in swaddling clothes, in a context of representation of the allegory of the four seasons. We find here the strong influence of ancient art with a coat whose ends end in lion's paws, reminiscent of the tunic of Hercules. This type of allegorical bust is part of the architecture of the Venetian palaces of the seventeenth century.
