Elements of a sumptuary embroidered piece of furniture, second half of the 17th century, silk embroidery
polychrome in split stitch for the flower buds and in metallic thread in couch stitch
for the stems and contours. Decoration of sinuous uprights of peonies, tulips, lilies and acanthus foliage
; embroidery reapplied on the three beige silk velvet leaves of a folding screen set
flat. The proportions of the embroidery suggest that it is originally three of the four
good-grandments of the trim of an embroidered French-style bed. Wear and restoration on the embroidery,
velvet background marked in places.
