Two shepherd's chairs stamped Jacob D. RUE MESLEE from the Empire period, coming from the castles of Trianon In molded and carved wood with a square back, they stand on baluster feet decorated with rosettes and palmettes. Stencilled marks: - V. 7982, PT 402, label removed, 43712, V 79(?)38 for that of the Petit Trianon. - 1703 (?), label removed, CI.412, 45957, Gd.T 428 (in red), G(?)T 2493 (in grey) for that of the Grand Trianon. H. 92 W. 61 D. 51 cm Provenance: Petit Trianon for one and Grand Trianon for the other. Both delivered by Jacob, July 25, 1805. The one in the Grand Trianon, for the room of the "Secretary of the Commandments". That of the Petit Trianon, for the bedroom of the "Secretary" (probably Méneval). We find them in the inventory of 1807-1810 at the Petit Trianon where one is upholstered in "yellow Utrecht velvet with small designs nailed with golden nails on false gold braid".
