Ottoman Koran Ink, polychrome pigments and gold on paper, bound in brown leather with stamped and gilt decoration. Turkey, 1271 AH (1854 AD), Ottoman Empire. 19 x 13 x 2.5 cm This complete Qur'an opens on a bifolio richly illuminated in polychrome and gold, where the text in fine calligraphy is inscribed in medallions, in the center of a decoration abounding in polychrome floral motifs on a gold and blue background. On the following pages, the holy text is inscribed in black and red, spread over fifteen lines fifteen lines, with golden rosettes separating the verses, and the titles of the suras inscribed in illuminated illuminated cartouches. The margins are sometimes decorated with floral motifs or annotated. It ends It ends with a colophon signed by Ibrahim Rushdi, a student of Khalil Shukri, and bears the date 1271 AH (1854 AD).
