Exhibition labels on the back and ink stamps. 60 x 72 cm Exhibition : International Biennial of Fine Arts, Venice 1934. Provenance : collection of Major Georges Douin then by descent. Georges Douin was admitted to the Naval School in 1900 at the age of 16. From 1903 to 1908, he went to China during the Russo-Japanese war and was in charge of the Russian Imperial Legation in Seoul. During the First World War, he was assigned to the cuirassier Waldeck-Rousseau. He left the navy in 1919 and joined the Suez Canal Company in the transit service. He was posted to Ismailia from 1919 to 1927, then to Port Said from 1927 to 1937 and reassigned to Ismailia from 1937 until his death in 1944. He was an officer of the Legion of Honor and decorated with the Order of the Nile.
