[LE RICHE DE LA POPELINIÈRE (Alexandre Jean Joseph). Daïra. Histoire orientale en quatre parties. A Paris, de l'Impr. de C.-F. Simon, 1760.
[LE RICHE DE LA POPELINIÈRE (Alexandre Jean Joseph). Daïra. Oriental history in four parts. In Paris, de l'Impr. de C.-F. Simon, 1760. 320 p., brown calf spotted period, spine with 5 nerves, garnet colored title page, ornamented caissons, marbled edges (defects including dull corners, uncovered headpieces; moderate scattered russets). Extremely rare first edition, published at the expense of the author who reserved all copies for a small number of friends and family; the total number is estimated at 27, according to a note left by Jean-Jacques Rousseau on the copy he received. Each copy offered bore on the title page the name of the recipient, in the hand of the author, as well as two letters whose meaning is not elucidated. Here, the mailing is crossed out and indecipherable; the letters are "E" and "A". Another manuscript bookplate, later, has been partially erased, leaving only the first name, Jean Baptiste, and the place of origin, Dijon (Divionensis).
