[PLUMART DE DANGEUL (Louis-Joseph). Remarks... - Lot 144 - Daguerre
[PLUMART DE DANGEUL (Louis-Joseph). Remarks on the advantages and disadvantages of France and Great Britain in relation to trade and other sources of state power. Translation from the English by Knight John Nickolls. Third edition. Printed in Leiden, and found in Paris, by the Estienne brothers, 1754. In-12, VI p., [4] f., 411 p., contemporary tan calf, smooth spine decorated in the grotesque style, garnet morocco title-piece, triple gilt fillet bordering the boards, gilt edges (upper bit split, corners dull, one cap worn, the other restored, stains and soiling in margins). A treatise composed by the economist L.-J. Plumart de Dangeul (1722-1777), under cover of a fictitious translation from English. It had several editions in the same year 1754, then the work was rediscovered and republished in 1782. It offers a comparative panorama of the resources, crafts and manufactures of the two kingdoms, but particularly of the trade, in particular of the dynamics of the colonial companies, and under this chapter concerns some edifying lines to slavery. (Coquelin & Guillaumin II, 372).
