CHAS LABORDE. CARCO (Francis). The hunted man. Paris, Librairie des Champs Élysées, 1929. In-4, full brown morocco, spine with 4 nerves, author, title and date gilt, boards lined with fawn morocco and edged with a triple gilt fillet, gilt fillet at the edges, gilt head, case [J. Van West] (one side of the case missing). Edition illustrated with 15 hors-texte etchings by Charles Laborde and vignette on the title. Limited edition of 145 copies: one of 15 on japon impérial (2nd paper after a single copy on japon nacré), containing 4 states of the etchings. Enriched with an original drawing by Chas Laborde in ink and wash, and an autograph letter signed by Francis Carco. A bookbinder of Belgian origin, Jules-Karl Van West practiced in Paris from 1919 - associated with Charlet in the twenties - until about 1935; then he returned to Belgium (Cf. Fléty p. 172).
