BOURGOGNE, 15th century - Lot 109
BOURGOGNE, 15th century Saint Philip Figure originally from an apostolic altarpiece. Statuette carved in alabaster with traces of polychromy. Damage, restoration and missing parts. H. 40 cm Provenance: former Stettiner collection. Designed for an apostolic altarpiece program, our saint figure bears witness to 15th-century Burgundian production. of the 15th century, notably in the choice of material and the type of representation, very close to that of the mourners of the Dukes of Burgundy. Our alabaster is particularly close to the work of Antoine le Moiturier (c. 1425 - ap. 1497). The sculptor's influence can be seen in the square shape of the face, the swollen eyelids and the treatment of the drapery.
