A Louis XV period COMMODE with curved sides in rosewood and rosewood marquetry on an oak frame. It opens with four drawers in three rows, two of which are on the top row. Gilt bronze ornamentation of foliate rocaille on handles, escutcheons, falls, sabots and apron. Stamped varnish. Burgundy red marble top. Stamped MONDON and JME. 84 x 97 x 55 cm. Restoration, chips and scratches on the marble and cracks on the marquetry. This chest of drawers, circa 1750, may have been made by François Mondon (1694-1770) or by his son François-Antoine Mondon (1732-1809), who was awarded the title of Master on December 31, 1757.
