[Manuscript]. [Luynes]. INVENTORY after the death of M. le D - Lot 27
[Manuscript]. [Luynes]. INVENTORY after the death of M. le Duc de Luynes. [By] Me Fourchy, notary, Paris. February 3, 1868. Large folio (30 x 21 x 4 cm.), paperback, modest cloth spine (cloth lac. on spine, solid stitching, covers worn and corners rounded). Very important inventory of the estate of Honoré Théodoric d'Albert, 8th Duke of Luynes (1802-1867). An archaeologist, collector and specialist in ancient numismatics, he donated most of his prestigious collection - over 6,000 pieces - to the Cabinet des Médailles of the Bibliothèque Nationale. This document seems to describe the contents of the Hôtel de Luynes in Paris (partially destroyed in 1868); however, the book collection is described under the title "Bibliothèque de Dampierre". The copy is neat and legible, written on stamped laid paper at r° and v°. It describes numerous objets d'art and works of art, including a painting by Rigaud and one by Philippe de Champaigne, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' pieces, a number of antique sculptures, and an important ornithological and mineralogical collection that constituted a museum. A detailed list of antique and foreign weapons covers 16 pages; the inventory of the cellar extends over 7 pages. The section devoted to the prestigious library covers 110 pages, listing 14787 volumes.
