TRÉVOUX. Dictionnaire Universel Français et Latin [known as "Trévoux's dictionary"]. Nancy,
chez Pierre Antoine, 1734. 5 full calf volumes, spines decorated. Wishing to publish a dictionary to compete with the Furetière, whose revenues financed Protestants in Holland, the Jesuits published the Dictionnaire de Trévoux, the first edition of which appeared in 1704. It offers a synthesis of the lexicographical works of the 16th and 17th centuries.
