André BOUYS (Hyères, 1656 - Paris, 1740) Family portrait on a terrace in front of a landscape Canvas. 142 x 158 cm Born near Toulon, André Bouys trained in Paris in the studio of painter François de Troy, engraving several of his compositions. He was admitted to the Académie Royale in 1687 as a portraitist, with portraits of his colleague Charles de La Fosse (canvas, 116 x 91 cm) and the sculptor Etienne Le Hongre (canvas, 119 x 92 cm), both of which are in the Château de Versailles. Although accepted as a painter in the portrait genre, he was also the author of several still lifes. In some of these, we find the same peaches and bunches of grapes held here by the mother of two families.
