Danae Receiving the Golden Rain
Black pencil over red chalk, white chalk and stump, blue pastel highlights on beige paper.
Slightly oiled, small stains.
Handwritten inscription on back: "Danaë recevant la pluie d'or. Boucher's drawing was bought by my father in 1883 from Loyer. It came from the collection of the Prince de Lucinge, from whom Loyer had bought it. It was included in the sale of my father's drawings and appears in the catalog. It was bought back by me at this sale for 18,000 fr.

Provenance: former collection of the Prince de Lucinge (according to an annotation on the back); acquired by Guyot de Villeneuve from Loyer in 1883 (according to an annotation on the reverse); his sale, Paris, May 28, 1900, lot 1, repr. (with the title Danaé recevant la pluie d'or)...; acquired at the sale by the latter's son (according to an inscription on the reverse), then by descent.
